Introductory Course

Learners will analyze the data-driven business world as you gain exposure to different career paths and industry tools. This course provides an accurate representation of the skills learners will acquire and the projects you can hope to complete should you choose to pursue the full program.

SQL and Databases

After this course, learners will be able to import data into databases, query the data, join tables together, filter and sort the resulting queries, create stored views and export the data to another format. Further, learners are introduced to database design and learn how to manage their own databases.

Statistics and Probability

This course will aid in the building of a strong foundation in descriptive statistics, conditional probability and advanced modeling techniques. The learner will be able to approach real-world problems from an analytical perspective with confidence.

Data Storytelling

Course participants will learn visual concepts required to produce effective visualizations while also discerning between the psychological and anatomical components of data storytelling. By keeping a data story thread throughout their entire data wrangling adventure, learners will frame their data goals with purpose.

Milestone Project 1:
Building and Presenting Data Stories

Learners will be able to demonstrate their ability to clean and manipulate a dataset and perform advanced statistical analysis using summary statistics, linear regression and modeling. This milestone project allows learners to explore their skills in the areas of statistics, Excel, SQL and data storytelling.

Python Programming

In this course, learners explore the fundamental concepts of programming and how to structure their analyses. Topics will include core programming concepts such as expressions, data types, variables, functions, loops and arrays.

Data Wrangling

Learners will be able to take a step back and think critically about ensuring that all people are represented in the data and if they aren’t, then they will consider the additional data needed to accurately represent all groups. Additionally, industry standard software will be used to automate data wrangling processes.

Visual Communications

Course attendees explore visual dynamics and principles to produce effective data visualizations that showcase the most important parts of data to stakeholders in a clear and simplified way.

Advanced SQL Programming

Building upon the skills learners gained in their previous SQL and Databases course, this course extends the learner's skill in SQL programming covering topics such as stored procedures, triggers, cursors and query optimization.

Milestone Project 2:
Data Integration, Preparation, Reporting and Presentation

Learners demonstrate their ability to build data pipelines and wrangle data into a usable format for downstream data visualization and analytics by presenting their reports to classmates. This milestone project focuses on developing the learner's ability to attain, transform, investigate and present data throughout a data project life cycle.

Business Intelligence

This course teaches learners to build on visual communication concepts by demonstrating popular industry tools and creating purposeful analyses and visualizations. Learners develop and apply best practices for reporting, graphs and charts and dashboards in a way that can be applied in any business intelligence application.

Big Data

In this course, learners examine core concepts and methods used for big data and IoT, including characteristics of big data, data warehousing, data lakes, data virtualization and cloud-based data infrastructure services. Learners will build upon their previous knowledge of Python by using PySpark to access big data to create analytics models.

Machine Learning

This course will allow learners to analyze a variety of use-cases within a business context for determining appropriate machine learning methods to apply and explore natural language processing, neural networks and deep learning.

Applied Artificial Intelligence

After an introduction to machine learning-created AI in the previous module, learners will explore a variety of pre-packaged AI cloud services offered by leading providers like Microsoft, Amazon and Google. Class participants will be immersed in the real-world applications of Artificial Intelligence and begin to understand how AI works.

Milestone Project 3:
Delivering Insights and Presentations

Learners will meet the challenge of presenting their data insights and visualizations by learning how to organize data visualizations around a goal and integrate a story arc to keep their audience engaged. This milestone culminates in a final project presentation that capitalizes on their data analysis, data storytelling and presentation skills.
